Amicoda Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 5, 2026
This policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in compliance with Alberta's PIPA and federal Canadian privacy laws.
1. Information We Collect
Because of the nature of our app, we collect both standard and highly sensitive data:
- Required Account Data: Email address, date of birth (must be 18+), password, and basic profile details.
- Sensitive Personal Data: Gender identity, sexual orientation, and optional health information (e.g., HIV status or testing dates). By providing this, you explicitly consent to its collection and public display on your profile.
- Location Data: Precise GPS location to show you nearby users and calculate distances.
- Device & Usage Data: IP address, device ID, app activity, and chat metadata (we do not read private chats unless investigating safety violations).
2. How We Use Your Data
- To operate the app, create your profile, and connect you with other users.
- To moderate content, prevent fraud, and keep the community safe.
- To display targeted, non-intrusive advertisements (we do not share your sensitive data with advertisers).
3. How We Share Your Data
- With Other Users: Anything you put on your profile (including location distance, photos, and sensitive data) is visible to the community.
- With Service Providers: We use trusted third-party vendors (e.g., cloud hosting) who are bound by strict data processing agreements.
- Legal Compliance: We will disclose information to law enforcement only if required by a valid Canadian court order or to prevent immediate physical harm. We do not sell your personal data.
4. Advertising, Analytics & Cookies
We advertise Amicoda on Google in order to reach new members. To measure whether those ads work, our site can load the Google Ads tag, which uses cookies.
- You choose first. Advertising and analytics cookies are switched off by default. Nothing is measured unless you press “Accept” on the consent banner. Declining costs you nothing — every feature works identically either way.
- Changing your mind. Select “Ad Choices” in the footer of any page to grant or withdraw this consent at any time.
- What is never shared. We do not send advertisers your profile, photos, messages, location, gender identity, sexual orientation, or health information. We also strip identifiers out of the page addresses we report, so Google receives only the shape of a page (for example “/u/[id]”) and never learns which member you viewed or who you spoke with.
- No sensitive-category targeting. We do not build advertising audiences based on the sensitive characteristics described in Section 1.
5. Cross-Border Transfers
Your data may be stored or processed on servers outside of Canada (such as in the United States). While outside Canada, your information is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to foreign authorities.
